Among the festival drone light shows lighting up skies across India, none have come close to the epic grandeur and stunning storytelling of the Mysore Dasara drone show of 2025. The drone show’s scale was unprecedented, wherein an incredible 3000 drones took to the skies as a single, synchronised swarm of light. And this show happened not once or twice, but on 4 separate nights! Pulling off this massive feat was none other than BotLab Dynamics, quite rightly famous for its huge, record-breaking drone shows. The company already had 5 Guinness World Records under its belt, and we couldn’t have imagined a better occasion than Mysore Dasara 2025 to add a 6th Guinness World Record to our name!

BotLab Dynamics at Mysore Dasara

This was the third year in a row that BotLab Dynamics had been invited to be part of the Mysore Dasara, a 10-day celebration that has become a huge draw for tourists from all over India and the world. The festival is also centred on illumination, with the organising bodies making sure that the whole city is wreathed in light for festivities. The emphasis on light is what makes drone light shows especially apt as a staple of Mysore Dasara over the past 3 years!

The main organising body behind the grandiose celebrations, the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC), was one of the first organisations in the country to elevate a traditional festival with the use of drone shows, recognising very early on the incredible power of these shows to inspire, excite and awe people.

The exponential increase in scale of the drone shows at Mysore mirrors the incredible growth story of India and BotLab Dynamics as a drone technology hub. In 2023, BotLab performed a drone show of 250 drones, while in 2024, the show consisted of a fleet of 1500 drones. Buoyed by the raw, emotional reactions of the festive crowds, the CESC this year decided to go even bigger, aiming for nothing less than a Guinness World Record in 2025. BotLab Dynamics arrived in Mysore, determined to succeed where global drone show players had often failed, and once again came through with its Made in India, in-house drone show swarm tech!

6th Guinness World Record at Mysore Drone Show

A 3000-drone show is never easy, even though BotLab Dynamics has pulled off larger shows - 5500 drones twice, and a 3500 drone show at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Such a large-scale production requires intensive and comprehensive planning, a large on-ground specialist team and an award-winning group of designers and animators. Fortunately, BotLab is the go-to expert in all three!

The record to beat for the Guinness World Record category of “Largest aerial display of a mammal formed by multirotors/drones” was 1985 drones. We aimed to break it in style, with the formation of India’s national animal - the regal tiger. For a successful record attempt, not more than 5% of drones could fail. That may sound like a very slim margin of error to others, but for India’s drone show pioneers, we knew we had this in the bag from the get-go.

All our preparation and expertise finally paid off! In front of a packed crowd, the skies over Bannimantap came alive with a breathtaking Tiger formation of 2,983 drones - successfully making BotLab Dynamics the holder of a 6th Guinness World Record. To see a 3D rendition of the Indian tiger leap across the open night sky was an unforgettable moment for both us and the 70,000+ spectators that had gathered on the first night of the Mysore drone show

Highlight Moments of Mysore Dasara Drone Show 2025

As expected, the record-breaking tiger formation absolutely took over the Internet and news broadcasts. However,  it was only one of a total of 12 stunning images that we crafted in the night sky. Beyond the Tiger, the Mysore Dasara drone show showcased awe-inspiring aerial designs - the Galaxy, Globe, Soldier, Peacock, Whale, Garuda, Bala Krishna, Kaveri Goddess, Karnataka map, Ambari with Howdah, and Chamundeshwari Mata. Each formation carried meaning - honouring heritage, showcasing Karnataka’s identity, and connecting tradition with innovation.

The formation that got the loudest cheers was the Jumbo Savari elephant. We had put special effort into painstakingly recreating this image of Mysore’s elephant procession, knowing that it carried great historic, cultural and spiritual meaning for our spectators.

The dancing Bala Krishna formation was another crowd favourite, depicting young Sri Krishna on top of the Kaliya serpent, whose many heads were carefully and meticulously crafted. This composition was framed above by an eclipse, given fiery brilliance by our pyro drones. For the uninitiated, pyro drones combine the precise choreography of outdoor light drones with the striking flame fireworks. However, unlike traditional fireworks, we use cold flare pyros, which are noiseless and smokeless

Another formation that drew hoots and cheers from the spectators was the Indian soldier, taking aim and firing his gun, emblazoned across the sky in the colours of the Indian flag. Patriotic themes have been a particular favourite of drone shows this festive season, given how Operation Sindoor captured the nation’s imagination just a few short months ago. The strong and strategic military operation has been recast in multiple drone shows across the country as a modern-day Ramayana, a contemporary story of the victory of good over evil.

Audience Reactions to Mysore Drone Shows

The first night drew 70,000+ spectators to the Bannimantap grounds. By the time we got to the fourth night, an incredible 1.5 Lakh people had gathered, eager to see the World Record show whose videos and photos had flooded social media. Between the first night and the fourth, there was a 114% increase in drone show audience. Overall, Mysore Dasara tourists reported that drone shows were one of the major attractions that drew them to the city in 2025! This is very much in keeping with earlier observations on the crowd-pulling power of drone shows. Consecutive-day drone shows in Varanasi in 2024, for example, had drawn 11x the crowd on Day 4 over Day 1!

Cumulatively over the 4 nights we performed the drone show, it was watched by around 4.5-5 Lakh people over an 8 km radius. The grounds had a capacity of around 35,000+, but the beauty of an aerial spectacle is that no earthly boundary can limit its reach. The high-visibility show was watched, recorded, posted and reshared by tens of thousands of people around the Bannimantap Grounds.

What made the Mysore Dasara drone shows truly memorable for us was the sheer emotional reaction of the festive crowds. Within 30 minutes of each show ending, videos were already going viral, spreading the magic far beyond Mysore. The cheers, applause, and overwhelming joy of the crowd are the real rewards for us as artists and storytellers; records and technology mean little without the human emotion they ignite.

Viral Buzz of Mysore Dasara Drone Shows

The digital impact and reach of drone show videos posted online cannot be understated. Social media exploded - they had never seen something like this before. This was the 4th biggest drone show ever in Indian history, and the cultural significance of every formation amplified its reach. Within days of the first Mysore Dasara drone show, videos of it had garnered 96 Million+ views and 200+ organic media mentions. Videos were being circulated in WhatsApp groups across the country and shared by young and old alike across all platforms

This was proof of something we have known for a long time as drone show experts - despite the increasing popularity of drone light shows, they can never become commonplace. They continue to intrigue with their unusual visuals above city lights, and produce scroll-stopping content every single time. The Mysore Dasara drone show had something for everyone - a technological milestone for the science-lover, artistry for the storyteller, cultural resonance for the festive-goer, and a Guinness World Record that is a badge of honour for every single Indian.

The Guinness World Record made the Mysuru Dasara drone show a talking point across the world. However, this was more than an achievement in technology - it was a milestone in how culture and innovation can come together to create shared pride and unforgettable experiences. The fact that all 3000 drones used in the shows were Made in India is a testament to how far we have come as a nation in fulfilling the dream of Atmanirbhar Bharat. Since BotLab had designed and developed all its drone tech in-house, we had complete operational mastery over every aspect of the show. This is what is at the root of our confidence when we take on massive projects like these that no other drone show company in India can even begin to attempt!

As India heads into the festive season, we at BotLab have another hope - that the truly unprecedented success of the Mysore Dasara drone show inspires more people and organisations across the country to celebrate festivals differently. There are many ways to tell our sacred stories and honour our originary myths, and drone shows have emerged as a valuable and powerful storytelling medium at the edge of art and technology. There is no competition between drone shows and fireworks in artistry, complexity or impact, as the Mysore shows have proven. As we redefine the future of live events and experiential storytelling, here’s hoping that India moves with us to reimagine 21st-century celebrations
