The meeting of Indian drone shows technology with pop culture along with a shared storytelling experience creates a powerful and limitless horizon. The sky transforms into the ultimate stage for a drone light show. BotLab Dynamics accomplished that at IIT Bombay Techfest 2025 by hosting the first Pokémon drone show in India over three evenings, from 22nd December to 24th December 2025. It proved to be the largest drone show in Maharashtra.

This Pokémon drone light show was not merely a typical Pokémon event with a few characters’ formations in the air. Rather, it was a carefully orchestrated event that required high precision. It was supported by 1,500 LED drones in total. The show redefined the nature of large-scale engagement for Pokémon enthusiasts. The formations had a visibility of up to 4 kilometers for the attendees of the event. The rest of the country watched the show through engaging videos with stunning visuals on social media platforms.

From the first illuminated Pokéball to the final QR-powered interactive finale, the IIT Bombay skyline became a living Pokémon Universe.

What Made this Pokémon Drone Show Historic

This Pokémon drone light show marked a shift:

  • Moving from screens to the sky
  • Static branding to immersive storytelling
  • From passive viewing to interactive audience engagement

Techfest is India’s largest technical festival. Therefore, it was the perfect opportunity to debut a new state-of-the-art Pokémon drone light show over three incredible nights, for an exceedingly involved and tech-savvy audience.

Vision Behind the Pokémon × BotLab Dynamics Show

The vision was to develop a Pokémon showdown that had international quality standards and emotions deeply rooted in Indian culture.

The show also differed from traditional Pokémon releases, such as character reveals. A character reveal is more about generating excitement at the time of release. BotLab Dynamics had ample creative space for emotional build-up. They created a unique cinematic experience of a Pokémon drone show that could be enjoyed by everyone on a colossal scale.

The formations also included the visual representation of a QR code in the night sky. BotLab Dynamics is the only drone show company in India that has created aerial QR codes for 2 major events in the past, namely:

  1. Mayhem Studios, Mumbai - 750 drones were used to visually demonstrate the QR code at the gaming reveal event for the first time in India.
  2. Mahindra LifeSpaces - A total of 600 drones were utilized to paint their QR in the sky.

Scale of the Event & the Technology Backing it Up

Massive visually stunning formations were created through the use of 1,500 LED-equipped drones. It was an extraordinary drone show which involved considerable planning, preparation, and execution.

Show Tech Highlights:

  • Over 1,500 LED-integrated drones formed high-resolution visuals such as images, graphics, and characters
  • GPS to control a swarm of drones with high precision
  • Calibration of each drone to keep Pokémon characters integrity maintained
  • Safety and operational procedures compliant with DGCA regulations

The use of multi-coloured LED drones was an enhancement of visual excitement and stimulation. This is a safer and sustainable manner of utilising Indian drone technology in a very forward, and environmentally-conscious manner.

The Pokémon drone show at IIT Bombay wasn’t just stunning but also was:

  • India’s first Pokémon drone light show
  • A smart integration of LED drones for extraordinary storytelling through aerial visuals
  • Visually engaging aerial formations influencing virality factor positively
  • A multi-day execution proving operational consistency
  • A sustainable alternative to traditional forms of entertainment like fireworks

The Pokémon drone show also featured a QR code formation in the sky. The visual representation of the QR code led people to scan it for digital engagement. This acted as a measurable factor since the QR was scanned thousands of times by people who were present at the show, as well as by the audience online.

The major advantage of a drone light show in crowded urban areas such as Mumbai is its ability to cut through the noise in the market, and gain audience’s attention immediately. A drone light show is a major breakthrough in guerilla marketing. It allows for precise audience targeting.

Since a drone show is highly camera-friendly, Gen-Z tend to record the striking visuals on their phones and share it over social media platforms. This is the best way to ensure digital reach with zero extra effort. You can think of a drone show as a marketing campaign that remains active even after the drones have landed.

This show demonstrated to the world that India is ready for Pokémon events of this magnitude, utilizing Indian drone technology.
