To commemorate the 350th anniversary of the martyrdom of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, a total of 500 drones were fired up in the sky by Botlab Dynamics to pay a grand tribute to his great valour. This was the largest drone light show ever to happen in Punjab. This article will recount the major drone light formations of the evening. Through the mix of devotion, history, and unparalleled storytelling, we will be honouring the Hind Di Chadar.

Historic Tribute to Hind Di Chadar

- Why 24th November 1675 Holds Immense Importance

On this day, the ninth guru of the Sikhs, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, was martyred as he stood up for people who were helpless to defend their own rights and freedom. People still search for Guru Tegh Bahadur's death date on the internet. It is done not out of curiosity but as a sign of paying respect to his extraordinary bravery.

On 23rd November of this year, the Government of Punjab held a 500 drone light show to honour his valour through a mix of devotion and technology. Botlab Dynamics retold this story of courage, which has been responsible for shaping generations, through their drone show technology. This was done to pay a commemorative tribute to Guru Sahib Ji on his 350th Martyrdom Anniversary.

- Why a Drone Light Show for the Tribute?

In today’s time, the attention span of people is declining. For it to be a memorable experience, a drone light show was the perfect choice due to its high engagement rate.

A drone light show enables one to narrate a story with:

  • A Silent Dignity
  • Eco-friendly Manner
  • Great Emotional Depth
  • High Definition Animations
  • Greater visibility across several kilometers

The Sikh heritage is well preserved at the Virasat-e-Khalsa museum. And this drone show by Botlab Dynamics did no less in preserving that heritage in the air. The sky became the canvas for the commemoration of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji on the day of his martyrdom. It was not just a regular drone show but a visual ardas paying tribute to his great courage, values and higher conscience.

- Punjab’s First Large-Scale Drone Tribute for the Sikh Community

This drone light show was organised by the Government of Punjab in collaboration with the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. This was done to educate people about the history of the Sikh community through advanced means of storytelling.

It was a meaningful experience for us, at Botlab Dynamics, to conduct the first drone show for the Sikh community. It has also been the largest drone light show witnessed in Punjab. However, we at Botlab Dynamics have previously conducted a 150 drone show at Plaksha University, but this one was on another scale, with a total of 500 drones.

The Punjab Government ensured that thousands of spectators could watch the tribute show, making it a technological and cultural milestone for us.

The beginning of the show was with the Punjabi script “ਹਿੰਦ ਦੀ ਚਾਦਰ” (Hind Di Chadar) glimmering in golden light across the night sky. The pattern transformed from Indian Tricolour to Basanti hue signifying the Sikh valour and unity of the nation.

The opening of the show was surely powerful. It served as a reminder of Guru Sahib Ji being the protector of India’s spiritual fabric, a protector of the weak and a light of righteousness.

A calm portrait of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji was formed next in golden-white tones. His figure had a halo or aura behind it, signifying his spiritual presence. The formation had a commanding presence to it clearly stating his spiritual depth and unshakeable resolve.

The arrangement of drones to form his portrait carried his presence to it. The formation stayed long enough for people to reflect and connect with his presence. Many people had their hands folded while other few had tears welling up in their eyes.

- Kashmiri Pandits Seeking Protection

Kashmiri Pandits approaching Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji for their protection from persecution was a historic moment in itself. Every show related to the life of Guru Sahib Ji is incomplete without this integral moment being a part of it.

The drones rearranged themselves beautifully to portray the plea. The plea in itself was a symbol of trust and hope of Kashmiri Pandits in Guru Sahib Ji. His willingness to shoulder the miseries of the weak truly captured the spirit of Hind Di Chadar.

- Captivity at Lal Quila: Courage in the Face of Injustice

The drones, once again, rearranged themselves forming an outline of the Lal Quila where Guru Sahib Ji spent his final days in captivity under the rule of the Mughal emperor, Aurangzeb. At the base of the outline of Lal Quila, drones formed a serene image of Guru Sahib Ji radiating his divine aura.

The formation honestly symbolized:

  • His Spiritual Strength
  • His Unwavering Resolve
  • His conscience to hold on to the truth

This formation surely demanded silence for people to reflect and appreciate his unwillingness to bow in the face of injustice. Even in his time in captivity, he shone brighter than the Mughal empire that had him captured.

- Bhai Mati Das Ji’s Martyrdom: A Story of Unshakeable Faith

The resolute devotion of Bhai Mati Das Ji was portrayed through the use of drones, lighting in golden color signifying his courage. The formation was focused on his bravery rather than his brutal execution at the hands of the empire. The drones ascended upwards with a stream of light, showcasing the liberation of his soul. The animation symbolized his soul rising beyond fear and oppression.

The formation depicted much more than martyrdom; it stood for one’s absolute belief in their faith, which was also the spirit of Guru Sahib Ji’s companions.

- Palki Sahib Formation: A Revered Farewell in the Sky

The show ended with a shimmering animation of Palki Sahib. This symbolized the honour and devotion with which the remains of the Guru Sahib Ji were carried. The gentle swaying of the Palki was mimicked by the movement of lights in the sky.

The tribute came to an end with the closing text - “Martyrdom Day, 1675” in Punjabi script. It served as a reminder of sacrifices made which got etched in history forever.

An Evening That Influenced Generations

- A shared spiritual moment

The show inspired thousands of people across generations. Families, friends, and youth witnessed the show under the open sky, sharing a mutual experience with each other. Everyone perceived the story told in their own way. Many people got to revisit the history they had learned about their culture. While others got to know about it for the first time through this compelling technological art form.

People described the tribute as:

  • A spiritual moment that allowed them to look inwards.
  • A living history lesson that rewrote their memories.
  • A grand tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji.
  • The unwavering resolve of the Sikh community.
  • A reminder to always uphold basic human rights.

This was not just a performance but an evening of remembrance and pride.

Technological Advancement Preserving History

This drone show tribute by Botlab Dynamics proved that innovation can become meaningful when it is guided by reverence. In this show, drones didn’t just act as storytellers but also as the carriers of faith and emotions as they made animations paying tribute to Guru Sahib Ji.

The show commemorating Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji showed how the blend of modern technology with creative storytelling can lift up the heritage rather than overshadow it.

An Eternal Message for Today

The world is struggling with intolerance and inequality, with wars happening all around in the name of faith. In these times of severe conflict, the story of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji needed to be told more than ever. His sacrifices taught us that the highest form of humanity lies in protecting someone’s right to faith.

His life should be a reminder to us that courage is a moral choice needed to protect the truth, no matter what the circumstances are.

The Light Which Didn’t Fade Away

After the last formation, as the final drone dimmed rendering the sky blank again, the light of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahab Ji remained with us. The feeling of his divine presence has continued to guide us after all these years. It was a night where technology met spirituality, storytelling met truth, and the sky bowed in respect to a Guru who lived and died for humanity.
