The show opened with an outline formation of Durga Maa, which is often considered a symbol of strength and protection. As the show continued, the drones created the illuminated text “मरू महोत्सव 2026” in the sky.
One of the show's centrepieces included a visual rendition of a woman dancing to the Ghoomar dance form. This was a representation of the folk traditions and the role of women in Rajasthan’s culture. This formation was then transitioned into a Jaisalmer Fort formation, as a tribute to the city’s most recognised monument.
This drone show in Rajasthan successfully provided enough time between formations for the audience to take in each aerial visual formation.
First-Ever Drone Show in Jaisalmer
The Maru Mahotsave event holds a strong historical significance in the culture of Rajasthan. To celebrate it with grandiose, a first-ever drone show was curated for Jaisalmer. The execution of the show required extensive planning, approvals, and operational precision.
The Jaisalmer drone show was attended by officials, including:
- The District Magistrate (DM)
- The Sub-Devisional Magistrate (SDM)
- MLA of Jaisalmer
Their presence reflected the growing role of drone light shows in tourism-led events.
Drone Shows Becoming Central to Tourism Events
Tourism boards in India are increasingly incorporating drone light shows in their large-scale celebrations. There are multiple factors behind drone shows becoming a primary choice for tourism events.
1. Organic Crowd-Puller
There are many attendees who visit the event just to watch the drone display, regardless of other traditional performances. The anticipation of witnessing large aerial visuals acts as a strong factor in holding the attention of the crowd for the event.
2. Robust Visibility
The spectators at a drone show are expected to record the aerial display to share it on social media platforms. This serves as a great opportunity for social media exposure through UGC content. Many attendees can easily turn the show into a live event over social media, gaining thousands of impressions throughout the digital space without adding to the cost of marketing.
3. India’s Tech-Forward Approach
Incorporating drone displays into event celebrations reflects the efforts of the government to rely on tech innovations for celebrations. Aerial shows enable government partners to showcase traditions through Indian drone technology.
4. High Media Value
Tech-led celebrations provide tremendous coverage to the media. Therefore, the drone show events provide unique media content that could naturally lend them to headlines. This helps with destinations gaining the attention of the public beyond regional borders.
Tourism Boards Using Drone Shows Across India
A drone light show has become a primary choice of state tourism departments to highlight cultural narratives in a creative manner. An aerial show can enhance the audience engagement rate through its powerful visual hooks, thereby leading to greater media visibility.
